Make this DIY planter with a moulded furniture foot and a drill!
The wooden moulding section in the hardware store is one I always walk through with the thought that I should be able to make something from them. They’re so perfect and smooth… surely they’re just ready to be crafted into something new?
With the success of my PVC pipe planter, I was riding on a succulent high. So I grabbed my Bosch drill and a spade bit (which I’d always wanted to try) and got crafting.
I thought it would be good as a planter because there was a hole drilled all the way through. Drainage is really important for plants.
Wooden foot, 30mm spade bit in drill, spray paint, succulent (with a low root system)
Insert the spade bit into the already drilled hole in the foot and drill the hole using even pressure. If the drill stops, you’re putting too much pressure on, ease off a bit.
You might need to use a chisel to dig out a bit of extra space. An inch should be enough.
Spray the wood with the paint and wait for it to dry. I sprayed the inside of the hole too, to provide sealing.
Plant! You’ll need a plant with a low root system, there won’t be much room in the foot for something large.
I’m looking forward to see how the planter ages, if the pain peels or the wood splits. It will give the planter more character.
