The other week I was looking for Etchall, a paste that etches through glass to leave a frosted effect. Do you think I could find it anywhere? Instead, and in desperation, I brought this Martha Stewart Frost Etching Effect from Fishpond. Oh em gee. It is amazing.
Water based, you can tint it with any colour acrylic paint for a colourful frost. I mixed my paste with water so I could dip dye some milk bottle vases that I picked up at Rave Discounts.
This has to be one of the messier projects I’ve undertaken in a while, so make sure you don’t wear a white shirt while crafting.
Martha Stewart Frost Etching, milk bottle glass vase, pink acrylic paint, water, shot glass, plastic cup.
Mix 1 part paint to 2 parts frost and 3 parts water in the plastic cup. It helps if you leave it overnight before crafting for some reason.
Submerge your vase into the cup. If the liquid doesn’t reach high enough, put in a little bit more water. I left it in for about a minute and swirled the glass around to coat it.
Take out the vase and put it onto the upended shot glass to dry. The first coat will look really weak, but don’t dip again. Once it has dried, it will provide the surface for the following coats to stick to.
Dip and let dry, each time submerging less of the glass to achieve the ombre effect.
