You may have noticed a sudden increase in felt ball crafts on my blog. Felt and felting isn’t something I’ve traditionally used in my tutorials, but since scoring a bunch of balls from CleverPatch I’ve been looking around for some cute crafts to make with them.
I saw this post on Pinterest. It’s an Etsy listing for a ‘Berry Gold Felted Necklace’. So I decided to make my own and put a little Eryn_With_A_Y spin on it.
cool coloured felt balls ($10.89), jewellery caps, jump rings, assorted beads, head pins, eye pins, jewellery pliers, necklace, 1 normal needle, 1 wool needle.
Put together a complementary selection of balls and beads. You might not end up using all of them; I had more possibilities than I ended up using. It will grow organically as you put it together.
Make the felt balls into beads by inserting the smaller needle into the end of the ball, then insert the wool needle and twist it around to open the hole. Take a head pin and an end cap, thread through the ball, insert another end cap and close off with the round pliers.
Do the same with the beads and end caps, using eye pins instead of head pins when you want to link the bead to the felt ball.
Join the beads with the felt balls using jump rings. Play around with configurations until you have a charm that hangs naturally. Use a jump ring to hold them all together and thread it on the necklace.
