So I got my chicken obsessed friend a cutting board in the shape of a chicken for Christmas. Turns out she’d already brought the same thing for her husband!
Instead of returning it, I prettied it up into a decorative cheese platter. I got the cutting board from House, they also had a pig available, but you can use the same method on and shape board to get the same result.
Cutting board, ribbon, upholstery tacks, PVA glue, hot glue gun, hammer.
This is the fiddliest part. You’ll need to pipe a little bit of hot glue around the edge of the board and then press the ribbon firmly down so the glue spreads out onto the wood. You don’t want any bumps or lumps, so I laid about 2cm of glue then pressed down until I was all the way around. Fold the end of the ribbon over at the end and glue down for a straight seam.
Once the hot glue has dried, I sealed the ribbon with a coat of PVA glue both to adhere the edges to the wood and to seal the ribbon. You’ll still need to be careful when you wash the board though.
Measure the circumference of the board, divide it by how many upholstery tacks you have, and mark along the ribbon where they’ll need to go. I had 25 tacks, and they wouldn’t fit in the tail and the comb of the chicken, so I just put them in the easy to reach places. Press the tacks in first with your thumb, then drive in gently with your hammer.
Buck buck!!
