I have this strange love affair with beading. Sometimes I absolutely love it, other times my stash can stay in the cupboard for months at a time. I’ve mentioned before that my love of making stuff often clashes with my hate of clutter, and it’s sooooo easy to end up with a bunch of earrings on your bedside table that will never get worn.
I’m currently in an ‘I love beading’ headspace, and I’ve come up with some cool, alternative ideas for earrings that don’t just require a couple of round beads and a jump ring (snoooore).
If you know me, you know I have an unhealthy obsession with chevrons. It’s the symmetry I think… I was going through my office when I came across a set of letters that I use occasionally in photography. It was sitting under a couple of books and had gathered a layer of dust. I saw the ‘V’s’ sitting there, upside down and I reached directly for my jewellery kit.
Surely there’s not so many words with the letter ‘V’ in them that I’ll miss them that much? Famous last words!
2 x letter ‘V’s’, 1 x drill with the smallest drill bit, jewellery pliers, 2 x jump rings, 2 x earrings, gold spray paint and a wooden backing board.
Under $20 if you have to buy the letters and the paint new. I had everything lying around already to my husbangs delight. He’s in budget mode at the moment.
Mark a spot on the letters to drill that’s close enough to the edge that the jump ring will be able to sit smoothly. Back the letters on the backing board and drill the holes slowly.
Fix the jump ring and earrings!
