I’m the kind of person that, when I go shopping for home wares, is always looking at prices on things and thinking ‘I can make that myself, and much cheaper’.
So I end up with a few photos on the camera phone and a trip to the craft store on the way home.
I saw this skull votive holder in a store the other day:
It cost $39.99 and I had a total ‘I can make that myself’ moment. My skull votives came in at approximately $12 each.
Materials: 2 x skulls (I found them at the local discount store), 2 x votives (I chose a frosted option so the spray paint would stick better), black glitter, craft glue, araldite glue, black gloss spray paint.
Time: 3 hours, mostly spent waiting for glue or paint to dry.
Glue your votive to your skull using the araldite and wait…
Spray paint the skulls. You’ll have to do a few coats to get into all the nooks and crannies.
Use your finger to dab some glue around the eye sockets, then a different finger to dab glitter onto the glue. Do the same with the rim of the votive.
This project would look cool in any colour and doesn’t need to be saved for Halloween, although it would be a cheap option for a table decoration for a party.
